If I Knew Then…

If I knew then what I know now
I would have walked more
And ate less

If I knew then what I know now
I would have given my kids more time
And less money

If I knew then what I know now
I would have loved my parents more
While they lived instead of after they died

If I knew then what I know now
I would have spent three more years in the army
Wonder if I would have made a good officer?

If I knew then what I know now
I would have had more friends
By being more of a friend

If I knew then what I know now
I would not have planted my daughter
In such poor soil

If I knew then what I know now
I would have more patience
And argued less

If I knew then what I know now
I would have realized my brother
Was as lonely as me

If I knew then what I know now
I would have pitied my school mates
Instead of wishing them ills

If I knew then what I know now
I would not fear the unknown
But welcome the adventure

If I knew then what I know now
I would not have been a bullied kid
External bruises are better than internal sorrow

If I knew then what I know now
I would still be a republican
And still a moderate

If I knew then what I know now
My regrets would not exist
Better ways for better memories
